Introduction

Fielden Court is located in a tree lined avenue and has eight guest rooms. The house is around one hundred years old and whilst we aim to meet the needs of all our guests there are some period features that might make access difficult for people with limited mobility. Our guest rooms are located over two floors accessed only via stairs. One of the rooms on the first floor have en-suite bathroom with the shower inside a bath. As all our guest rooms are all on our first and second floors they therefore are not suitable for wheelchair users.

Pre-Arrival

We are located in a quiet tree lined avenue just 5 minutes walk from Southbourne's Blue Flag Beach . Access to the beach is via a zigzag cliff path and cliff lift. Our location is peaceful and we are ideally positioned for those wishing to use the beach and explore the area.

The nearest shops, pubs and cafés are within easy walking distance at the top of Grand Avenue , in Southbourne Grove, approximately 500 yards away.

The nearest bus stops are at Southbourne Grove. From here buses run regularly to Bournemouth, Christchurch , Poole and the surrounding area, we also have copies of the local timetables for guest use.

The nearest railway station is Pokesdown, approximately 1 mile from Fielden Court. Bournemouth Central Station is approximately 3 miles away. Taxis are usually available at the station but we can book one for you in advance if required.

There are several local taxi companies; we can make bookings in advance for you.

At this time we do not take pets although guide dogs are welcome by prior arrangement.

We regret we do not have facilities to prepare documents in Braille.

Arrival and Car Parking

We are a small family run Guest House and do not have a 24 hour reception service, for that reason our arrival times are from 3pm to 6pm. Earlier arrival may, however, be possible by arrangement. On day of departure rooms must be vacated by 10.30am.

There is off road parking for 5 cars on a level drive in front of the main house, please park facing the house. In addition there is unrestricted parking in the avenue.

We offer assistance with luggage.

Main Entrance

There is one step of 3 inches up to the front door. There is a sensor light above the door.

The front door is always closed therefore please ring the bell on your arrival.

Guest Accommodation - Public Areas

The hallway is well lit and there is plenty of guest information in this area., Check in is here and the main stairs to first and second floors. Leading off the hallway is the dinning room.

There are 19 stairs to the first floor, with a hand rail on one side. A further 17 stairs lead to the second floor, again with a hand rail on one side. All the stairs are carpeted and well lit. There is a bookcase on the first floor landing for guests convenience.

We have four guest bedrooms on the first floor and four further guest bedrooms on the second floor. (Please see section "Bedrooms" for more information).

The house is centrally heated throughout but temperatures can be adjusted in each room to suit individual requirements via thermostatic radiators.

Dining Room

Breakfast is served in the dining room between 8am and 9am each morning, with all food being cooked fresh.

The dining room is carpeted.

Bedrooms

All bedrooms are carpeted throughout, have been tastefully decorated and furnished and have en-suite bathroom facilities.One bedroom on the second floor has the shower cubicle curtained off in the room with separate toilet behind a door.

On the 1 st floor we have a mixture of a twin and double rooms. Two of the double rooms have two comfortable arm chairs. All the rooms are bright and airy with large windows that overlook either the garden or the avenue. The en-suite bathrooms have large spacious showers. On the 2nd floor we have 2 double rooms which are a generous size with plenty of character provided. Also on this floor we also have a compact single room that has its own private bathroom with shower facility and a twin room.

All rooms have a colour television, tea and coffee making facilities, towels, and complementary toiletries and a hair dryer.

Our beds are normally made with synthetic duvets and pillows, with spare blankets and bedspreads for use during winter.

There is a wardrobe with drawers and bedside cabinets in each room; all rooms have mirrors and bedside lights.

Some of our bedrooms are not large enough to accommodate additional seating but where possible chairs are provided.

There is a guest information folder in each bedroom which contains variety of further information. Additional details on the Guest House, the area and suggestions on where to eat are some of the issues covered. There are details on emergency contacts including the local hospitals and doctors.

Garden

The garden is not available to guests, although there is a little garden at the side of the property where there are two tables and chairs for the guests to sit.

There is secure storage in the garden that guests may use to store surfboards, wetsuits, bicycles, and outdoor walking boots and clothing. There is a small charge of the use of this facility.

Additional Information

There is a fire extinguisher in the entrance hall and one the first and second floor landings.

In the event of a fire you will hear the fire alarm Exit the building following the fire exit signs (via the main staircase and hallway) to the parking area in front of the building.

We do not permit smoking in the house. Should you wish to smoke please do so in outside the building.

We are happy to cater for special diets. Please advise us of these before your arrival.

A small fridge is available for mothers with young children and people who require medication to be kept cold.

Mobile phone reception is limited on the ground floor but is better on the first and second floors and outside the building.

There are many opportunities for walking and cycling to explore the area, and routes to suit both the strollers and the adventurous.

Just to the West of us is the lovely Hengistbury Head landmark, which offers lovely walks around it.

Bournemouth town centre is a ten-minute bus or car ride away and is a hub of culture, activity and attractions.
